CHEC is asking all members and friends to support the Belize High Commission in London’s appeal to help following the Category 1 Hurricane Lisa. This storm hit landfall on 2 November 2022 with maximum winds around 75 mph, pounding Belize’s most populous district for nearly two hours affecting 39 per cent of the population. Thankfully, CHEC understands, there was no loss of life or serious injuries, but substantial damage has been recorded of around 500 houses destroyed, with 50,000 other homes seriously damaged. The photographs displayed illustrate the kind of damage inflicted.
