John McDonnell

John has extensive history working and researching in the private, non-profit and educational sectors and has always been passionate about solving environmental issues.  

In 2014, John obtained a BA in History from St Mary’s University, Twickenham, before achieving a distinction in a Masters in Understanding and Securing Human Rights at the School of Advanced Study, University of London, in 2016. His dissertation explored the concepts of ecocide and ecologically induced genocide – a topic that he is still exploring through his PhD at the School of Advanced Study, University of London.

John has been published numerous times, most notably in the Journal of Genocide Research for his paper on “The Merauke Integrated Food and Energy Estate (MIFEE): An Ecologically Induced Genocide of the Malind Anim” and in The Emerald Handbook of Crime, Justice and Sustainable Development with a chapter titled “A Paradox of ‘Sustainable Development’: A Critique of the Ecological Order of Capitalism”.

John has worked at a number of different charities including Action Against Hunger and Protection Approaches, and in 2017, began working as Communications Officer for CHEC, a post he remained in for 5 years.
