Levi Oguike

Honorary President

Levi, CHEC’s Honorary President, is a chartered quantity surveyor, Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, and Fellow the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors. He has served in the House of Representatives, National Assembly, Nigeria, chaired the House Select Committee on Habitat, anchored the Regional Council of Parliamentarians in Habitat, Africa Region, and represented the Speaker at the World Forum of Parliamentarians in Habitat in Berlin, Germany.

He has worked with the European Union as a Consultant and Coordinating Technical Adviser to the National Authorising Officer/Deputy Chairman & Hon. Minister of National Planning Commission, overseeing the work of donor agencies in development programs on improving infrastructure in selected cities across Nigeria.

As State Commissioner for Lands, Survey, and Urban Planning, his work covered new towns development to the rehabilitation of existing structures. He has made key presentations on the future of urbanisation in CapeTown, South Africa at the Corporate Council of Africa and the USA.

He has also made a keynote presentation at the International Conference at the University of Manchester on cities and urbanization. As State Commissioner for Planning and Economic Development, he again engaged the international donor community as the state authorising officer, dealing with sustainability.

Levi has participated at UN-Habitat program on Safe Cities, Secure People. Co-ordinated on behalf of CHEC Mangrove Management to secure cities against coastal erosion, amongst other biodiversity issues raised at CHEC’s Conference in The Gambia. He is currently exploring the prospect of assisting the House Select committee on Environment in respect of Soil Remediation on Oil spill and Flaring Gas scorched sites in the Crude Oil producing communities that are exploited by major oil exploring companies through their use of legal consultants who tend to place undue premium on monetary compensation and do very little on soil remediation.
