COP26 Daily Preview: Monday 1st November

With COP26 officially having been opened earlier today, all eyes will be on the first day of events. As we've shared with you in the build up to COP26, there are hundreds of events going on. Therefore, each day we will bring you a preview of what's to come in the next day starting with events on Monday 1st November.

Presidency Programme of Events

The Presidency Programme of Events covers the main negotiations that will take place between world leaders at COP26.

Monday sees the beginning of the two-day long World Leader's Summit. The summit will see opening statements made by world leaders as they aim to "deliver concrete actions and credible plans" to tackle climate change.

The schedule for day 1 of the summit is as follows:

  • 08:00-12:00 - Arrival of Heads of State and Government at Conference venue
  • 12:00-13:00 - Opening Ceremony (Watch Live Here)
  • 13:00-17:00 - National Statements

This will be followed by a VVIP reception in the evening for all heads of State and Government.

The statements made by Heads of State and Government will be webcast live.

Green Zone Programme of Events

The Green Zone Programme of Events will see youth groups, civil society, academia, artists and businesses host events, exhibitions, cultural performances, workshops and talks throughout COP26.

No less than 16 events are taking place on Monday as part of the Green Zone Programme of Events. The best part is, the majority of them are being livestreamed. This means, that even if you are not in Glasgow in person you won't be missing out.

The Presidency Pavilion at COP26 will feature events by civil society, private finance, businesses, and the COP26 partners.

Event Description: Tom Corby will discuss recent collaborative work with the British Antarctic Survey which will be followed by a discussion by Louise Sime and Jeremy Wilkinson on both the science of climate change and its relationship to COP26. The Rewilding Story of Wild Ken Hill

Event Description:

Whilst Wild Ken Hill is in part about returning land to nature, the project uses a combined approach which includes regenerative farming and traditional conservation methods alongside rewilding. Dominic will be sharing with us the ideas behind the project, through to recent developments including involvement in the national effort to restore Curlew numbers and the reintroduction of beavers to the Estate in 2020.
