COP30 Day 1

Day 1 of COP30 marked a pivotal shift toward innovation-driven adaptation, as multilateral development banks, governments, and partners announced new financing models and tools to turn adaptation plans into scalable, bankable projects. Highlights included the High-Level Event on Adaptation with MDB leaders, the launch of a multi-billion-dollar Agricultural Innovation package to support farmers in climate-vulnerable regions, and early press briefings from COP30 President Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago, UNFCCC Executive Secretary Simon Stiell, and COP30 CEO Ana Toni. Events throughout the day underscored the role of technology in strengthening resilience—from digital decarbonisation and data transparency tools to initiatives like the AI Climate Institute aimed at accelerating equitable climate transitions.

The afternoon continued with major ministerial dialogues and high-level roundtables focused on justice, food security, digital transformation, and climate finance. Leaders gathered to discuss the Belém Declaration on Hunger, Poverty, and Human-Centered Climate Action, endorsed by 44 countries, and advanced global cooperation through the Climate-Resilient Social Protection and Smallholder Agriculture Finance Partnership. Simultaneously, the launch of the Green Digital Action Hub and updates on digital contributions to NDC implementation brought government, business, and tech sectors together to showcase how digital solutions can drive systemic climate progress. Additional closed-door sessions on the FRLD and next-generation NDC implementation rounded out a first day defined by ambition, cross-sector collaboration, and a clear push to unite adaptation, technology, and justice at the heart of COP30.
