CPF 2022: Advancing Freedom of Expression in the Commonwealth

On Wednesday 22nd June 2022, the Commonwealth People's Forum hosted its 5th session in which it tackled the issue of Advancing Freedom of Expression in the Commonwealth. The session was moderated by Victoria Rubadiri and speakers included:

  • Dionne Jackson Miller: Former President of the Press Association of Jamaica

  • Dr. Anne Gallagher, DG. Commonwealth Foundation

  • Sa’eed Husaini Researcher and Consultant

Also in attendance was CHEC Chairman, Mark Robinson who was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to ask the panel a question.

Mark proposed that there should be a Commonwealth Press Freedom Register to report serious violations of press freedom and journalist rights, of which there have been many. He also praised the work of the Commonwealth Journalists Association and the Commonwealth Human Rights Initiative in this regard. The panel welcomed Mark's intervention and received a special mention from Anne Gallagher in the summation of the event.

We hope to soon have video footage of the whole event, including Mark's question, which was a superb way to increase CHEC's visibility!
