COP30 Day 5
Day 5 of COP30 showcased major breakthroughs across energy, industry, and finance as countries, companies, and institutions moved decisively from ambition to implementation. The day opened with the launch of the Clean Energy Ministerial Future Fuels Action Plan, now backed by 23 countries under the rapidly expanding Belém 4X Pledge to quadruple sustainable fuel use by 2035. Industry momentum was equally visible as partners announced new commitments in methanol-enabled shipping, sustainable aviation fuel production across Latin America, and early-stage hydrogen deployment supported by GEF and UNIDO. Ministers also adopted the Belém Declaration on Global Green Industrialization, establishing a shared framework for low-carbon manufacturing, technology transfer, and sustainable supply chains—reinforced by steel-standards interoperability agreements now covering 70% of global production. Meanwhile, utilities committed nearly $150 billion annually to grid and storage expansion, MDBs launched new regional investment platforms, and the Global Grids and Storage Coordination Council set unified standards for renewable-powered systems.
Momentum continued across transport, efficiency, and fossil-fuel transition pathways as governments and coalitions unveiled concrete roadmaps and financing shifts. The Powering Past Coal Alliance and BOGA introduced practical mechanisms for phasing down coal, oil, and gas, while new data from the Clean Energy Transition Partnership illustrated a 75% drop in public finance for fossil fuels since 2021. Mission Efficiency launched a pioneering de-risking platform for energy-efficiency investments, and 10 countries endorsed a landmark declaration to align global transport with 1.5°C pathways by 2035. Across the Blue and Green Zones, civil society and youth leaders continued to shape the narrative: the Youth Climate Champion convened a powerful dialogue on environmental racism, and UNEP advanced work under the Global Task Force Against Extreme Heat to protect workers and communities from mounting heat risks. Taken together, Day 5 demonstrated COP30’s accelerating shift into a solutions-driven phase—mobilizing systems, capital, and collective action to power a just and resilient global transition.
