Letitia Eva Takyibea Obeng, FGA
(10 January 1925 – 23 March 2023)

Letitia was the first Ghanaian woman to obtain a degree in zoology (from the University of Birmingham, UK) and the first to be awarded a Ph.D. (from the University of Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine). She has been described as "the grandmother of female scientists in Ghana". CHEC was very fortunate to have such an outstanding, global leader of women in science as a member of the Governing Board from 1971 to 1987 and as Trustee of the Human Ecology Foundation from its inception in 1985 until her death.
