COP30 Day 3

Day 3 of COP30 focused on empowering people, strengthening skills, and elevating cultural and Indigenous leadership as essential pillars of the climate transition. The launch of the Global Initiative on Jobs & Skills for the New Economy set the day’s tone, outlining how the shift to a low-carbon world could generate more than 650 million jobs and announcing early commitments from countries across Latin America, Africa, and Asia. Indigenous leadership took center stage in the High-Level Event on Indigenous Adaptation, where ancestral knowledge and locally led planning were highlighted as critical to national and global resilience efforts. At the same time, information integrity was formally incorporated into the COP agenda for the first time, with several countries joining the Global Initiative for Information Integrity on Climate Change to combat disinformation and safeguard public trust in climate communication.

Momentum continued through major announcements on public procurement, finance, culture, and youth leadership. The UNIDO/IDDI plan on Sustainable Public Procurement demonstrated how public spending can drive just, low-carbon transitions, while the Asset Owners Summit focused on aligning global capital with climate-resilient development. Events on cultural heritage and storytelling underscored how art, identity, and ancestral wisdom help forge public engagement and strengthen adaptation efforts. The Youth Climate Champions’ high-level dialogue reinforced the need for intergenerational leadership, while Maloca’s digital platform amplified voices on justice, transparency, and Indigenous rights. As COP30 President Ambassador André Corrêa do Lago noted, the positive spirit among parties showed a shared determination to prove that multilateralism can deliver — with people, creativity, and inclusion at its core.
